Kandy Shugars, a Certified Public Account since 1987, lends a strong business sense to any project, in addition to her meticulous accounting practices. Kandy guides Chalkboard families through the labyrinth of financing college, completing the FAFSA and CSS Profile correctly, and deciphering the nuances of financial aid offers. After helping a Chalkboard client through a successful financial aid appeal process, Kandy joined the Chalkboard team in early 2017 as a superb resource for our students and their families.
She has extensive experience in corporate, governmental, and private accounting in Colorado and New Mexico. After working 16 years for the Telluride Ski and Golf Company as the CFO and V.P. of Finance and Accounting (with a budget of $45 million per year), she left to open a private practice called “Shugars & Company CPA’s and Consultants, Inc.” She effectively and efficiently serves the non-profit sector in the Telluride regional community, as well as dozens of home owners associations and businesses. She is an expert in tax preparation, financial forecasting, operation budgets, capital plans – all critical skills for aiding families in financing the college years. Nana and Kandy have worked together since 2013 as a strong team, first at the Telluride Science Research Center and now at Chalkboard.
Kandy is a member of the “Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants” and the “American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.” In 1984, she earned a degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting and Management, from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
With her husband and two sons, she lives just outside Telluride on a rugged mesa top. She divides her time between the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the Hawaiian Islands, where she was born and raised. Nice.
